Get Confident is a technical training class I created and teach across the United States. It is a four to five hour, hands-on session designed to simplify hose and coupling training for anyone working in the hydraulic or industrial hose industry. I have delivered this course to groups of up to 100 people and am currently the only instructor leading it. The class is practical and focused. It gives sales reps, counter staff, and technicians real working knowledge they can use on the job, not just classroom theory.
The course is divided into four core areas:
Connect Confident teaches coupling identification using real thread ID kits, seal styles, and common visual features. We cover basic SAE and international thread standards and how to recognize and classify them in the field. Every attendee uses hands-on training kits filled with real couplings.
Conduct Confident builds hose product knowledge using more than 25 real hydraulic, fleet, and industrial hose samples. We cover construction, laylines, application types, and selection methods. We also review SAE and application specs and provide a basic overview of industrial hose families and their use in the field.
Cut Confident provides live demonstrations of hydraulic and industrial hose cutting using Gates equipment. Attendees learn proper techniques and safety procedures through step-by-step instruction.
Crimp Confident includes hands-on crimper training using the PC707 and GC20. We walk through setup, calibration, crimp specs, troubleshooting, and how to apply crimp data correctly. Each attendee participates in the full process from start to finish.
Sale Confident helps salespeople better understand hydraulic system requirements so they can recommend the right Gates products with confidence. We cover equipment pressure classes, application types, and operating environments to help reps target the correct product families and identify new opportunities in the field. This portion of the training also builds technical fluency, equipping attendees to speak with end users at a deeper level. The goal is to turn sales professionals into technical professionals who can sell with confidence and back it up with real product knowledge.Â
This class was built to help the field. It improves confidence, increases safety, and gives people the knowledge they need to make better decisions at the crimper, on the counter, and in the shop.
